In the 1980s, parietal art or street art was unpopular, controversial and partially appealing. The streets were considered as irrelevant spots by the administrative authorities. A twist in the situation: broadcasted since the 2000s, today street art enthrals and intrigues an increasing audience. Banksy is the emblematic figure. Spray arabesques woo the masses rather than contradicting them. Mutatis Mutandis, walls are replaced by canvases or sign panels authorizing a better access to the galleries pantheons or bourgeois dwellings. The techniques become more diversified: spray painting, collage, stencil, serigraphy… The topics and objects fluctuate from “shock to chic” to use the expression borrowed to Christophe Genin (Street art au Tournant, p. 182). The creators surface from clandestinity to become celebrities.
Artvera’s Gallery is delighted to present his new exhibition Street Art including three international contemporary artists: Hijack, Rich Simmons & Jean-Luc Sollberger. Over forty works will be displayed from the 6th of March until the 18th of April 2015.
