With vivid colors from perky to positively cheerful, flexible shapes for laughing and mischievous characters and motifs, Danièle Akmen’s artwork will envade the gallery space as a whole and turn it for a few weeks in a playful and enchanted garden. Discovering the world of Danièle Akmen is unveiling the extra-ordinary. For Akmen, anything is an excuse for wonders. The artist explores her subjects and reinvents them with a consummate art of ornamentation. The familiar is transformed here into treasure, and the common into magic.
Since her beginnings, and throughout the seventies, she likes to become alternatively either a narrator or a magician. She observes her environment attentively, details it meticulously, studies it intensely, and then tries to transmute it and to reinvent it in her studio. A plethora of characters all seemingly part of the same romantic tale, untimely and diachronic, appear then and evolve within small ordinary and daily occurrences.
