YOON Jung Won (b.1978)

YOON Jung Won paints a flower that holds the flow of the time like the finite life of man. Flowers are complicatedly tangled, and a bird flies freely around flowers. She uses bongchae (medium for oriental painting) and Seokcheong (honey found from rocks) on silk canvas to color the flowers and draw the outline several times to emphasize the line. On the other hand, in contrast to the splendid, sophisticated and vivid life force of the image, she depicts a trace of fire that seems to have disappeared into fire. In the work, the fire symbolizes a complexity and ambivalence of creation and extinction, destruction and purification, and trials and suffering. As such, she placed conflicting elements, such as the flower of the earth and blue/bird of the sky, and fire and water to the canvas. This is to say our lives can coexist with various factors such as pain and healing, or conflict and reconciliation and discover the value of life, ‘beautiful days’, in the process of living together with various people.
