BIN Woo Hyuk (b. 1981)

Half way between landscape and monochromatic painting, BIN Woo Hyuk’s work explores the possibilities of materials through his compositions. Using a mix of charcoal and oil, the artist challenges the viewer to abandon their preconceptions of the subject matter he depicts. His works convey a sense of isolated, primal nature without human presence. The absence of narrative creates a sensation of unfamiliarity. There is no wind, no sound, no rustling. No animals move, nor do any actual events take place in his pieces. Instead BIN captures a moment in time removed from real life experiences. His interpretation of nature reveals an environment where the air flow seems interrupted, flat and silent.
