About

MIN Byung Hun (b. 1955)

After an early career as a musician and vocalist, MIN Byung Hun turned to photography, which he has now been practicing for over thirty years. MIN’s photography evocates the passage of time and variations of atmosphere. His work focuses on nature, capturing desertic mountains, the falling of the snow, or the stillness of a pond; such actual landscapes are recreated as unique images oscillating toward abstraction. MIN’s monochromatic pictures resonate with silence and delicacy. While portraying the essence of the Korean landscape, MIN reinterprets natural phenomena such as the flora, rain, wind, gales, snow, and descending and disappearing fog. With a resemblance to the traditional Korean Ink Scroll Paintings, the artist produces delicate shades of gray on the soft texture of the paper. His technique serves to further strengthen his refined and poetic creativity, and exudes an absolute beauty of minimalism.
